July 3, 2024, Synopsys announced that the US Department of Commerce has lifted its previous restrictions on the company's exports to China.

Synopsys recently issued a statement on the US lifting of recent export restrictions to China: On July 2, Synopsys received a letter from the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security, notifying that the export controls to China implemented based on the restriction order received on May 29, 2025, have been revoked, effective immediately. The company is resuming the supply of recently restricted products in the Chinese market and comprehensive customer support.

With the implementation of trade agreements aimed at facilitating the flow of key technologies between China and the US, the Trump administration has lifted at least some of the export licensing requirements for the sale of chip design software (EDA) to China.

Previously, in May, the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security sent letters to several leading electronic design automation (EDA) suppliers, requiring them to stop shipping to Chinese customers and revoking some shipping permits that suppliers had already obtained. Affected products included not only semiconductor design software but also related chemicals.

EDA software manufacturers include Cadence, Synopsys, and Siemens EDA, a subsidiary of Siemens.
