On April 11, 2025, at 10:36 PM EDT, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) issued an updated tariff guidance. The guidance announced that, in accordance with a memorandum signed that day by President Trump, Clarification of Exceptions to Executive Order 14257 (as amended) of April 2, 2025, all products classified under the following Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS) headings are exempt from the "reciprocal tariffs" under Executive Order 14257.

According to the announcement, this exemption involves products under multiple HTSUS headings, covering electronic and electrical equipment and related components, including:

Computers and Servers: Computers and servers under heading 8471, and automatic data processing machine parts under heading 8473.30;

Semiconductor Manufacturing Equipment: Chip production equipment under heading 8486;

Telecommunications Equipment: Heading 8517.13.00 (wired communication components) and 8517.62.00 (wireless communication components);

Storage Devices: Heading 8523.51.00 (magnetic stripe cards), and 8524 (magnetic tapes, disks, and other recording media);

Television Receivers: Heading 8528.52.00;

Semiconductor Components: Diodes, transistors, integrated circuits under heading 8541, and microelectronic components under heading 8542.
