It is reported that TSMC's 2nm process will enter mass production, and the monthly production capacity is expected to reach 200,000 wafers by the end of 2028.
According to supply chain sources, TSMC's Hsinchu Baoshan 2nm factory (Fab20) will reach a monthly production capacity of 40,000-45,000 wafers in the fourth quarter of 2025, and approximately 55,000-60,000 wafers by the end of 2026 and 2027. The Kaohsiung factory (Fab22) will become the focus of 2nm capacity expansion, constructed in six phases. The P2 factory will have a capacity of 10,000-15,000 wafers by the end of 2025, followed by the commissioning of P3-P6 factories. The production capacity in 2026-2028 will reach 50,000-55,000 wafers, 80,000 wafers, and 145,000-150,000 wafers respectively.
Overall, TSMC's monthly 2nm production capacity will exceed 100,000 wafers by the end of 2026 at the earliest, reaching approximately 200,000 wafers in total by 2028. In addition, the US factory will also produce 2nm in the future.
Customers include many leading manufacturers such as AMD, Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Marvell, Broadcom, and Bitmain.
Industry insiders analyze that in the past, the initial monthly production capacity of each new generation of TSMC's process was about 50,000 wafers, and then gradually increased to 140,000-150,000 wafers. However, the 2nm process directly aims for approximately 200,000 wafers, which is a carefully planned move by TSMC.
Firstly, the 2nm process adopts a new GAA architecture. Due to the huge investment, TSMC has deployed it in advance, while other competitors such as Samsung, Intel, and rapidus still have gaps in yield, capacity expansion, and production stability, and are not in a hurry to enter the next generation of processes.
He further pointed out that TSMC's advanced processes are far ahead, but it also faces pressure from overseas factory construction. The 2nm process is the result of costly research and development, but customer demand for 2nm is strong, so TSMC hopes that customers will stay with the 2nm process for a longer time to avoid further cost pressures.
