On October 15, local time, the British government announced it was adding 11 Chinese entities to its sanctions list, citing their alleged support for Russian energy firms and provision of critical items to Russia's military-industrial complex. This move is part of the UK's ongoing escalation of sanctions against Russia. Earlier, the UK has already imposed multiple rounds of restrictions targeting Russia's "shadow fleet," major energy companies, and defense-related entities. Expanding the scope of sanctions to include companies from several countries underscores the growing determination of the Western alliance to tighten its economic containment of Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
This move immediately triggered a strong reaction from China, as the Chinese Embassy in the UK swiftly issued a statement firmly opposing the UK's unilateral actions—and warning that any behavior harming China's interests will be met with a resolute response.
According to the latest sanctions list released by the UK Treasury, the British side claims that several overseas companies are suspected of assisting Russia in acquiring critical items—many of which are reportedly from Chinese enterprises—that can be used in both the energy and military industries. British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves stated that the government has taken action against Indian and Chinese companies because these firms continue to facilitate the flow of Russian oil into global markets.
The Chinese entities newly added to the sanctions list include:
Shandong Baogang International Port Co. Ltd.,
Shandong Haixin Port Group Co., Ltd. (SHANDONG HAIXIN PORT CO. LTD),
Shandong Jingang Port Co., Ltd.
Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Company,
National Pipeline Group Beihai Liquefied Natural Gas Co., Ltd.
Shenzhen JLFY Technology Co., Ltd.
SURE TECHNOLOGY (HONGKONG) COMPANY LTD,
Minshan Electronics Technology (Group) Co., Limited,
HORSWAY TECH (HK) CO., LIMITED,
IZZITION E-TECHNOLOGY CO., LTD.
YW NL E-COMMERCE COMPANY.
The British side stated that these entities have been added to the sanctions list due to their alleged involvement in providing economic resources, goods, or technology that could potentially destabilize Ukraine or support the Russian government.
