Recently, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation and East Microelectronics Hong Kong Limited (hereinafter referred to as “East Microelectronics”) held a groundbreaking ceremony in Hong Kong for the Yuen Long Innovation Park Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturing Base Project. Under this initiative, East Microelectronics will establish its first R&D and manufacturing base in Hong Kong dedicated to innovative front-end equipment for semiconductors and integrated circuits, with a project budget exceeding HK$800 million. The facility is expected to commence full-scale production by mid-next year, generating annual output value of more than HK$1 billion.
Founded in 2018 in the Zhengzhou Airport Economic Development Zone, Dongwei Electronics is the province’s first enterprise dedicated to the production of core materials for semiconductor chips. The company comprises three major business segments—semiconductor core materials, semiconductor equipment, and critical components—and is committed to becoming a one-stop service platform for high-end materials and equipment components used in integrated circuit manufacturing, thereby helping China address critical “bottleneck” challenges in the semiconductor industry. Currently, Dongwei Electronics has established R&D and manufacturing facilities in Shanghai, Beijing, Wuxi, Xiamen, and other locations. Leveraging its technological expertise, market position, and growth potential in the semiconductor sector, the company has become a qualified supplier to leading domestic and international chip manufacturers such as TSMC, GlobalFoundries, and SMIC. It has also been recognized as a national-level “Little Giant” enterprise specializing in niche, specialized, and innovative fields and was included on the “China Potential Unicorn” list.
According to reports, Hong Kong is accelerating the development of new-quality productive forces by launching a dedicated “New-Type Industrial Acceleration Program” with funding of up to RMB 10 billion to encourage enterprises to establish new smart manufacturing facilities in the city. The Dongwei Electronics project has already received support under this program, with an estimated funding amount of approximately RMB 200 million.
Wang Yongchao, Chairman of Henan Dongwei Electronic Materials Co., Ltd., stated that Hong Kong boasts a world-class innovation and technology ecosystem, state-of-the-art research infrastructure, and an unparalleled international geographic advantage. As a “super connector” linking mainland China with the rest of the world, Hong Kong is the ideal transit hub for companies seeking to expand globally. The company will leverage Hong Kong’s resources to drive breakthroughs in chip design and advanced equipment technologies, thereby supporting Hong Kong’s development as an international center for innovation and technology.
