ESDA Report: Electronic Systems Design Industry Sales Reach $5.5 Billion in Q4 2025

On April 13, 2026, Pacific Time in the United States, the Electronic System Design Alliance (ESDA), a technical community under SEMI, announced in its latest Electronic Design Market Data Report (EDMD) that sales in the electronic system design (ESD) industry reached US$5.4663 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 10.3% from US$4.9552 billion in the fourth quarter of 2024. Compared with the preceding four quarters, the four-quarter moving average growth rate was 10.1%.
Walden C. Rhines, Executive Sponsor of the SEMI Electronic Design Market Data Report, stated: “In the fourth quarter of 2025, the EDA industry continued to deliver robust year-over-year sales growth. Growth was observed across multiple product categories, including CAE, PCB, MCM, SIP, and services. All regions—the Americas, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), and Asia-Pacific—experienced expansion, with the Americas and Asia-Pacific posting double-digit growth.”
According to the EDMD report, the companies tracked had a total global workforce of 71,517 in the fourth quarter of 2025, up 13.8% from 62,833 in the fourth quarter of 2024 but down 2.3% from the third quarter of 2025.
The EDMD quarterly report includes detailed information such as the following categories and geographic breakdowns.
Sales by Product and Application Category – Year-over-Year Change
·Sales in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) increased by 5.0% to USD 1.8874 billion. The four-quarter moving average for CAE rose by 5.6%.
·IC physical design and verification sales declined 2.6% to $777.2 million. The four-quarter moving average for this category fell 5.1%.
·Sales of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and multi-chip modules (MCMs) increased by 1.8% to US$484.6 million. The four-quarter moving average for PCBs and MCMs rose by 4.5%.
·Semiconductor intellectual property (SIP) sales increased by 18.3% to US$2.0832 billion. The four-quarter moving average for SIP rose by 17.4%.
·Service sales increased by 19.6% to US$233.9 million. The four-quarter moving average for services rose by 15.6%.
Sales by Region – Year-over-Year Change
·The Americas (the largest sales region) recorded US$2.4735 billion in procurement of electronic system design products and services in the fourth quarter of 2025, representing a 13.9% increase. The four-quarter moving average for the Americas grew by 10.6%.
·In the fourth quarter of 2025, procurement of electronic systems design products and services in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) reached US$683.4 million, up 9.8%. The four-quarter moving average for EMEA increased by 9.4%.
·In the fourth quarter of 2025, Japan’s procurement value for electronic systems design products and services declined by 18.8% to USD 258.5 million. Japan’s four-quarter moving average fell by 7.4%.
·In the fourth quarter of 2025, procurement of electronic systems design products and services in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region reached US$2.0508 billion, up 11.3%. The four-quarter moving average for the APAC region increased by 12.6%.
