SEMI Report: Global Semiconductor Materials Market Sales to Reach a Record High of US$73.2 Billion in 2025

On May 12, 2026, U.S. Pacific Time, SEMI reported in its Materials Market Data Subscription (MMDS) that global semiconductor materials sales are expected to grow 6.8% year over year in 2025, reaching US$73.2 billion. Both the wafer fabrication and packaging materials segments posted growth, reflecting increased process complexity, demand for advanced manufacturing nodes, and continued investment in high-performance computing and high-bandwidth memory production.

In 2025, sales of wafer fabrication materials are projected to grow by 5.4%, reaching US$45.8 billion. Lithography‑related materials—including photomasks, photoresists, and auxiliary chemicals—as well as wet chemicals all posted robust double-digit growth, driven by increasingly stringent process requirements and more demanding lithography specifications that continue to boost material consumption.

In 2025, sales of packaging materials are expected to grow by 9.3%, reaching US$27.4 billion. Substrates and bonding wires will drive this growth, with bonding wires supported by rising gold prices and advanced substrates benefiting from robust demand.

Taiwan, China, has maintained its position as the world’s largest consumer of semiconductor materials for the 16th consecutive year, with sales reaching US$21.7 billion in 2025. Mainland China ranks second with US$15.6 billion in sales, while South Korea comes in third with US$11.2 billion. With the exception of Europe, all regions posted year-over-year growth, with China and North America recording the strongest increases among the major markets.

Materials Market Data Subscription (MMDS) provides 10 years of historical sales data and two-year forecasts. The annual subscription includes quarterly updates for the materials sector, covering sales across seven market regions: Mainland China, Taiwan, North America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the Rest of the World. The report also offers detailed historical data on silicon shipments, as well as sales figures for photoresists and auxiliary materials, process gases, and lead frames.
