According to a September 25 report by Reference News, citing Taiwan's "Industrial Times" website on September 25, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated in an exclusive interview with U.S. media on the 24th that Taiwan accounts for nearly 99% of advanced chip production, raising concerns about supply chain risks. The U.S. is now shifting its production supply chain to other regions in an effort to mitigate these risks.

Bersant declared that the U.S. government is working tirelessly to ensure the security and stability of semiconductor supply chains for the United States and its allies. He noted that the country may shift 30 to 50 percent of its semiconductor production to other regions—possibly Japan, or perhaps the Middle East.

The report stated that this isn’t the first time Bissett has mentioned the need to "de-risk" Taiwan’s advanced chip industry. Back in late August of this year, he pointed out that Taiwan’s dominance in advanced chip manufacturing poses a serious national security crisis for the United States, urging the Trump administration to relocate Taiwan’s chip production and safeguard America’s economic security.
