The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) recently released two key international standards in the field of power semiconductor devices—revised under China’s leadership: “Semiconductor Devices—Part 2: Discrete Devices—Rectifier Diodes” and “Semiconductor Devices—Part 6: Discrete Devices—Thyristors.” According to reports, this marks an important breakthrough in China’s deep involvement in the international standardization of power semiconductor devices, injecting “Chinese wisdom” into the standardization and industrialization of global power conversion and control technologies.

These two international standards address the longstanding issue of mismatch and inadequacy between standard technical content and product development, enhancing the applicability and operability of high-power semiconductor device testing. They will serve as an important reference for global manufacturers, users, and third-party testing organizations in product research and development, testing, and application, thereby helping to elevate the overall technological and quality levels of China’s power electronics industry.

Rectifier diodes and thyristors are both fundamental semiconductor devices that are widely used not only in household appliances such as mobile phone chargers, light dimmers, vacuum cleaner speed controllers, and induction cooker power regulators, but also extensively in electric vehicles and their charging stations, new energy generation, next-generation power systems, smart grids, industrial automation, and aerospace applications.
