Recently, FiberHome Communications has successfully developed a 13,824‑core ultra‑large‑capacity optical cable and has already achieved mass production of this high‑core count. The product fully meets the demands of constructing ultra‑large‑scale AI data centers, supporting inter‑building connectivity for clusters with over 100,000 GPU‑equivalent computing cores. It sets two domestic records—being the first domestically produced cable with tens of thousands of cores and the largest‑capacity optical cable in the industry—and will make its public debut at the 21st China Optics Valley International Optoelectronics Expo, which opens tomorrow.
Fenghuo Communications’ 13,824‑fiber ultra‑large‑core optical cable features a modular, precision‑engineered design, with an outer diameter of just 40 mm—identical to that of conventional 6,912‑fiber ultra‑large‑core cables, roughly equivalent to the diameter of a standard ping‑pong ball. The cable achieves a fiber density of up to 11 fibers per square millimeter, boasting a compact and streamlined structure; when paired with a protective outer jacket, it forms a 13,824‑fiber ultra‑large‑core optical cable. A single such cable can replace four conventional 288‑fiber cables, each with a 19‑mm diameter, thereby saving more than 90% of duct space.
A spokesperson from FiberHome Communications stated that, in response to the evolving landscape of AI‑driven optical connectivity and high‑speed interconnectivity for computing power, the successful development of this new product carries significant strategic importance for the industry. It addresses the domestic technological gap in ultra‑large‑core-count optical cables, thereby strengthening China’s optical communications supply chain. Moreover, it is well‑suited to future‑oriented, ultra‑large‑scale artificial intelligence data center scenarios featuring clusters of over 100,000 GPUs, substantially improving cabling efficiency and reducing operational and maintenance costs at computing centers.
Looking ahead, FiberHome Communications will remain focused on cutting-edge innovation in optical communication materials and processes, deepening its expertise in data center core applications centered on intelligent computing. By driving technological advancement, the company will support the high-quality development of the global digital economy, bolster the construction of worldwide computing‑power network infrastructure, and deliver high‑density, highly reliable optical connectivity solutions for AI‑driven infrastructure, thereby continuously strengthening the foundations of the global computing‑power industry.
