ESDA Report: Sales in the electronic systems design industry reached US$5.7 billion in the first quarter of 2026.

On July 13, 2026, U.S. Pacific Time, the Electronic System Design Alliance (ESDA), a technology community under SEMI, announced in its latest Electronic Design Market Data Report (EDMD) that electronic system design (ESD) industry sales reached $5.7478 billion in the first quarter of 2026, up 12.7% from $5.0983 billion in the first quarter of 2025. Compared with the previous four quarters, the moving average growth rate over the most recent four quarters was 10.3%.
Walden C. Rhines, CEO of Silvaco Group, Inc. and executive sponsor of the SEMI EDA Market Data Report, stated: “In the first quarter of 2026, the EDA industry continued to post robust year-over-year sales growth, with all product categories expanding—particularly Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP), which posted double-digit increases. Growth was recorded across the Americas, EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa), and the Asia-Pacific region, with EMEA and the Asia-Pacific achieving double-digit expansion.”
According to the EDMD report, the companies tracked had a total global workforce of 72,544 employees in the first quarter of 2026, up 12.6% from 64,403 in the first quarter of 2025 and up 1.1% from the fourth quarter of 2025.
The EDMD quarterly report includes detailed information such as the following categories and geographic breakdowns.

Sales by product and application category — year-over-year change
• Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) sales increased by 15.5% to USD 2.0184 billion. The four-quarter moving average for CAE rose by 13.1%.
•IC physical design and verification sales increased 8.3% to $751.3 million. The four-quarter moving average for this category declined by 0.9%.
• Sales of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and multi-chip modules (MCMs) increased by 4.8% to $419.2 million. The four-quarter moving average for PCBs and MCMs rose by 4.3%.
• Semiconductor Intellectual Property (SIP) sales increased by 14.1%, reaching $2.3325 billion. The four-quarter moving average for SIP grew by 13.7%.
• Service sales increased by 6.5% to $226.4 million. The four-quarter moving average for services rose 11.9%.
Sales by Region — Year-over-Year Change
• As the largest sales region, the Americas purchased $2.4338 billion worth of electronic systems design products and services in the first quarter of 2026, up 10.2%. The Americas’ four-quarter moving average increased by 9.8%.
• Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) purchased $766.4 million worth of electronic system design products and services in the first quarter of 2026, up 17.6%. EMEA’s four-quarter moving average increased by 10.9%.
• In the first quarter of 2026, Japan’s procurement spending on electronic systems design products and services declined by 9.9% to USD 283.1 million. Japan’s four-quarter moving average fell by 12.4%.
• In the first quarter of 2026, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region procured electronic systems design products and services worth US$2.2644 billion, up 17.7% year over year. The APAC region’s four-quarter moving average increased by 14.5%.
